Media Production 2 - Evaluation

In our Thursday lesson we were given the task of going out and filming ten shots , showing someone being followed. The learning objective for this task was to familiarize ourselves with the cut away shot and include it in our short movie were ever possible. We were only given 10 minutes planning time for this project, which created many problems. We did not have time to finish off our story board , find a location suitable for the film, and to create our shoot schedule. This time we had 4 people in our production team which again didn't make it any easier but each person was given a specific role, so no one had to double up at any point. So once we had the camera set up we went on location to film , which was the corridor. We only had a few shots to shoot here so we didn't want to spend too much time filming there. We would have been finished earlier if we didn't have to stop every 2 minutes to let people walk past. Again this was down to the lack preparation and the amount of time we was given to find an appropriate location. We then moved to the stairs were there was a continuous amount of noise playing in the background. We didn't think this was much of a problem because we could add a soundtrack to it. But to counter that idea the soundtrack could also stop the film looking as if it runs smoothly. Once we had finished filming we looked back at what we had done and were happy with the amount of cut-away shots we included. The shots went well with the other shots and we believe made the film more interesting.

Photograph evaluation

Me and two others were given the task of taking 8 still images with a camera. The still images had to be off someone walking towards a door and then through. The challenge was to make the still images as interesting and exciting as possible. At first the task seemed impossible , until we started to look at the different techniques we could use and also the many different camera angles we could use. When making decisions on what we were going to we all wrote down ideas on our working pads and then we all came together and shared our ideas. We listened and discussed each possibility until we finally came to a conclusion. We decided to go for a dramatic theme to try and make the photos more exciting. We quickly drew up a story board which included what each shot looked look and what the shot was called. Once we had done that we started on the project. We started with a shot of the legs. We then built up to the torso and then the face. The reason for this was to make a dramatic atmosphere , like someone being unveiled. the shots were all close ups which added to that. We then done a behind the shoulder shot and a close up of the door being opened. We need to make sure that the frames run smoothly , so we kept this in mind while taking pictures. After we had to the pictures we placed them on the computer and made sure they all ran smoothly , which they did. Overall we all worked well as a team and we turned a boring plot into an exciting and dramatic story.
